The ABC For Aliens

This was a school project I did in Lahti School of Design. The assignment was to design an ABC book, and I decided to do this one about human anatomy for aliens. I selected some basic bodyparts for each letter and designed the illustrations and layout.
I handbinded the book, and really enjoyed designing a whole concept for the book. In the cover I wanted to have something different from just a simple booklet design, so I made this flipage that shows two layers of a human body, the bones and the muscles.

This was also a school assignment I did during my time in school. The course was about experimental book design, and the only thing we were given was the theme "alone". We travelled to a remote island in the Finnish archipelago called Utö for a weekend, and during that time we were assigned to collect the material for the book.
This project was very interesting and I enjoyed it a lot. I ended up making a book with poems about being lonely. I wrote all the poems and did some typographical experiment with the word yksin (lonely) during my visit in Utö. I also photographed myself and my surroundings and used them as material for the book.
I wanted to make an anonymous book that would reveal the author in the end. I used some pictures i took of myself, but I cut my face off from those pages. So instead of my face you would see something from the next page. The trick in this book was that when you reach the last page, you have to rip it off to reveal the name and face of the author, and the book instructed the reader to throw away the information. That way only the first one to read this book would really know who wrote it.
I binded the book with glue and used thick paper, so that every page in it could also be a postcard if the reader wanted to tear the whole book apart. It was also wrapped in paper that would need to be destroyed to be able to read the book.
I wanted to challenge the traditional idea of a book as a beautitiful long lasting element.
