Ruka Ski Pride is a skiing event that celebrates equality in Ruka, Kuusamo, hosted in April. The event includes live music, friendly olympics and themed parties. The 2016 Ruka Ski Pride was the first LGBTQ+ skiing event organised in Finland.
Together with the social media manager we designed the visual appearance for Ruka Ski Pride 2020. I worked as the graphic designer, producing illustrated material and lettering for marketing and social media.
I wanted to illustrate funny characters and play around with feminine and masculine features, since the event is for everyone and celebrates pride. I decided to use animals instead of trying to portrait humans, and added a friendly alien here and there. I wanted the characters to be as androgyne as possible, so that it would be easy to identify to any of them.
The event was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and due to this most of the merchandise (t-shirts, bags, etc.) that I designed didn't go into production. The event will be organised once we have survived the pandemic.
